This week, our Crowden School students were treated to workshops presented by special musical guests from the Bay Area and abroad.
On Tuesday, internationally acclaimed pianist Nina Schumann visited our 6th through 8th grade students, working with our Beethoven Op. 1-3 Piano Trio, performing a South African jazz number, and sharing her experience of battling with Parkinson’s disease and focal dystonia. Dr. Schumann’s message of prioritizing the value of taking risks and playing expressively over playing the notes “perfectly” resonated beautifully with our students.
From Tuesday through Friday, conductor and historical keyboardist Derek Tam and Baroque dancer Jennifer Meller of the San Francisco Early Music Society presented interactive workshops exploring Baroque dance forms – just in time for our upcoming Winter Concert set, which focuses heavily on Baroque and Classical music.
We offer our most heartfelt thanks to Nina, Derek, and Jennifer for sharing their time and wisdom with us!
